On 20 July 2022, Unitrans, Total Energies and Road Safety Partnership South Africa (RSP SA) launched a VIA project at Michael Mkhwanazi Primary School in Tsakane Township, Brakpan and the project will be implemented in 4 schools around Ekurhuleni focusing on the Grade 6 learners. The project schools are Moriting Primary School, Isiziba Primary School, Job Maseko Primary School and Michael Mkhwanazi Primary School. 1200 learners will be involved in the project for a period for a period of 5 months.
VIA is an international road safety programme which is internationally funded by Michelin Corporate Foundation and Total Energies Corporate Foundation. VIA is implemented in at least 30 countries and the targeted beneficiaries are children between ages of 10 and 18 years.
The project was launched at Michael Mkhwanazi Primary School, in Tsakane, Brakpan. The representatives from Unitrans, Total Energies, Road Safety Partnership SA and the Department of Education reiterated the importance of working together to promote road safety. Mr Lucky Molaudzi, RSP SA General Manager, explained the project implementation process, activities and timelines.
The 4 project schools are part of VIA South Africa Gauteng schools, making the total number of 24 schools in the province.
Road Safety Partnership South Africa looks forward to working with other partners both in the public and private sector in implementing the VIA project in the country.
